U.S. – More drivers are dying in motor vehicle crashes in comparison with last year reports say. The LA Times reported that experts are saying a stronger economy and cheaper fuel prices have been contributors to an increase in fatal traffic crashes during the first half of 2015.
Ken Kolosh, manager of statistics at the nonprofit National Safety Council, is quoted as stating of the issue “We’re not even into the more dangerous parts of the year… If this pace continues, we could exceed 40,000 deaths for the first time since 2007.”
The Council’s data shows that traffic deaths are 14 percent higher this year than shown for the same time period as last year.
Data from the Federal Highway Traffic Safety Administration also shows that Americans drove 1.54 trillion miles during the first half of 2015.
Kolosh further stated of the impact of more vehicles on the road, “The more people drive, the more people die, unfortunately, on our roads.”
