Soldier Alleges in Lawsuit ‘Hurt Locker’ Based on Him

March 4, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ Did “The Hurt Locker” rip off a soldier’s story? In a new lawsuit, Master Sgt. Jeffrey Sarver, an Army bomb disposal expert, alleges the lead character of the Oscar-nominated film was based on him but that he has been cut out of “financial participation” in the film.

Sarver claims that screenwriter Mark Boal was embedded in his unit for 30 days and used real-life situations of Sarver’s unit to craft the script. Sarver also claims to have coined the phrase “The Hurt Locker.”

Already this week, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences sanctioned one of the film’s producers, Nicolas Chartier, banning him from the Oscars ceremony for “disparaging” another film to Academy voters while soliciting votes for his film.
