Officials are reportedly considering new requirements for vehicles for the prevention of sudden acceleration issues.

Washington (WiredPRNews.com) – The U.S. may begin requiring vehicles to be equipped with components for the prevention of sudden acceleration issues. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the current administration is considering the action amid reports of a recent Toyota recall on millions of vehicles.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is quoted by the AP as stating to the Senate Commerce Committee Tuesday regarding the issue, “We’re looking at it… We think it is a good safety device.”

LaHood is further quoted as stating, “We are looking at the possibility of recommending the brake override system in all, newly manufactured automobiles… The U.S. government has to do a much better job of keeping the American people safe.”

As noted in the report, Toyota announced this week plans to repair over 1.6 million vehicles worldwide.
