Legal News for Florida Auto Accident Attorneys. A motorist was killed and five others were injured in a car vs. passenger van collision in Polk City, Florida.

News for Florida auto accident lawyers- Florida Highway Patrol officials are expected to investigate a motor vehicle collision that caused one fatality and injuries ranging from minor to serious.

Polk City, FL—A two-vehicle crash, which involved both a 2004 Volkswagen and a 2003 passenger van, resulted in one fatality and left five others injured at approximately 4 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010. The deadly motor vehicle collision (MVC) occurred on Florida State Road 33 in Polk County, Florida, according to information provided by ABCActionNews.com.

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) authorities reported 47-year-old Rebecca Barner, the driver of the car involved, traveling northbound on State Road 33, near Green Pond Road, when her Volkswagen began to loom towards stopped traffic. Barner’s vehicle then veered onto the shoulder of the roadway for unknown reasons, subsequently causing her to loose control of her car. Upon doing so, the northbound Volkswagen was sent careening into the southbound lanes in a counter clockwise direction, where it consequently slammed into a church van.

Emergency medical services (EMS) crews responded to the scene of the motor vehicle accident to transport those injured to area hospitals for treatment. Unfortunately, Barner sustained severe injuries, which she seemingly succumbed to at the scene of the collision. A passenger in the Volkswagen, Irmarilis Rosario, suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital to be treated by doctors and nurses. Four people riding in the church van reportedly suffered minor injuries and were hospitalized as well.

While it was not stated whether officials believe alcohol and/or drugs might have been factors in the fatal wreck, Florida Highway Patrol troopers are expected to conduct a full probe into the incident.
