Clifton, NJ—Baroody Imports, Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), participated in the voluntary recall of Baroody Dried Apricots. The product safety recall was issued due to undeclared sulfites. The FDA announced the food recall on Wednesday, May 12, 2010.
Baroody Dried Apricots were recalled because the package labeling does not include sulfites as an ingredient.
Consumers who are allergic to, or have a food sensitivity to sulfites may be at risk of a serious and/or potentially life-threatening allergic reaction if they eat the apricots.
According to the FDA, “The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites.”
The manufacturer has not received any reports of illnesses as of yet.
The recalled Baroody Dried Apricots were sold throughout New Jersey and New York. The 14.1 OZ / 400 GR packages of dried apricots were manufactured in Clifton, New Jersey.
Consumers who have purchased the Baroody Dried Apricots have been urged to return them to the place of purchase. While it was not specified if a full refund or store credit will be provided, consumers may contact Baroody Imports at (973) 340-4832 for more information.
