Wilson, NY—A skydiving coach who suffered the most severe injuries in a Niagara County plane crash August 1, 2010, succumbed to those injuries on Friday, August 6, 2010. A preliminary Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) probe into the violent aviation accident indicated an open door might have contributed to the accident, according to the Buffalo News and a previous report titled, “Wilson NY Crash UPDATE: Open Door May Have Been Factor in Skydiving Plane Wreck.”
Updated reports stated 53-year-old Thomas “Toma” Medbury, an experienced skydiver, suffered several head wounds, as well as neck and spinal cord injuries in the Frontier Skydivers plane crash. Medbury, who died of his injuries nearly a week after the accident, reportedly took part in more than 1,000 jumps with Frontier Skydivers and had been skydiving for over two decades.
“We’ve known him 20 or 25 years, as long as he’s been skydiving… This has been a really hard week,” said pilot Paul Gath’s wife Linda. Paul Gath allegedly told investigators he lost control of the aircraft, a Cessna 185, shortly after departing from Hollands International Airport in Wilson, New York.
Officials from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are expected to complete their investigation into the now fatal plane crash within the next few months.
