Sierra Vista, AZ— A rollover accident claimed the lives of two teenage girls on Thursday, September 16, 2010. The fatal accident occurred on Moson Road near Chief Joseph Trail, as reported by KGUN 9.

According to the Sierra Vista Police Department media release, “A GMC pickup truck was traveling northbound on Moson Road near Chief Joseph Trail and was passing using the southbound lane. The pickup truck quickly overcorrected to the northbound lane to avoid on-coming traffic. However, the GMC lost control, side-swiped a southbound Chevy Camaro then continued off the west side of the road and rolled-over ejecting both occupants of the pickup truck.”

The occupants of the pickup truck were identified as two Buena High School students, who were not wearing their seatbelts. The driver was a 16-year-old female and the passenger was her 14-year-old sister.

Responding emergency crews rushed the teens via helicopter to a trauma center in Tucson for treatment.

The driver of the Camaro was uninjured in the wreck.

No citations have been issued, but officials are still waiting for the completion of the investigation.
