Tea Party Candidate Gaffes Continue

Oct. 20, 2010 /EIN Presswire/ – In the race for U.S. Senate for Delaware, Chris Coons (D) and Christine O’Donnell (R) took shots at each other in a debate at Widener Law School. However, the biggest blow of the night was self-inflicted by Christine O’Donnell.

When the issue of the First Amendment right of the separation of church and state was addressed, Tea Party favorite O’Donnell was unable to tell where in the Constitution this right was found.

Coons attempted to explain to O’Donnell the significance of the so-called “Establishment Clause”, but O’Donnell only reacted more incredulously to his remarks. Earlier in the debate, the audience laughed at O’Donnell for asking where the separation of church and state could be found in the Constitution.

O’Donnell’s political mishap is part of a rash of gaffes by Tea Party candidates. Earlier this week, Joe Miller’s security handcuffed a reporter in Alaska and Sharron Angle told a group of Hispanic students in Nevada that “some of you look Asian.”

Will the Tea Party backed candidates be able to save face before election day?
