Oct 27, 2010 /EIN Presswire/ – The Food and Drug Administration, in its drive for improved food safety, has issued a recommendation that all restaurants hire food safety managers.

The recommendation, which garnered praise from the National Restaurant Association and the National Council of Chain Restaurants, was released last week along with the results of a 10-year study of food risk factors. According to the study, the presence of food safety managers correlated with higher compliance levels with food safety protocol.

The FDA plans to add a provision requiring restaurants to employ certified food protection managers as a part of the future federal FDA Model Food Code.

According to the National Restaurant Association, only 24 states currently require restaurants to have food protection managers.
