Nicholasville, KY—A construction accident at the site of the new Copper River Grill caused a worker to have a part of his leg removed after it got caught in a curb-and-gutter concrete machine. The construction accident occurred just before 8 a.m., on Monday, November 29, 2010, at U.S. 27 Bypass across from Lowes, as reported by the Lexington Herald-Leader.
According to officials, Stephan Warren’s leg became caught in a curb-and-gutter concrete machine, which has an augur-like screw.
Charbel Joseph, a developer of Keene Centre commercial retail development, said, “From what I understand, he lost from 5 inches below his knee down. So he lost his entire foot and some of his shin. It is unknown how Warren’s leg became entangled in the machinery.
Nicholasville Fire Department rushed to scene to transport Warren to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital for treatment. He is reportedly in good condition at this time.
It was not reported if the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) would be investigating the construction accident.
