Madison, WI—YNot Foods, Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), voluntarily recalled 2,541 6/2.5lb cases of Upsides™ Orzo Toscano because they fail to include milk and soybeans on the ingredient list, thus posing allergen hazards to some consumers. The recall was announced on Dec. 17, 2010, as a means of protecting consumers who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk and/or soybean products.

If an individual with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk and/or soybean consumes the recalled Upsides™ Orzo Toscano, they could potentially suffer a serious or potentially lethal allergic reaction. No illnesses or adverse health effects have been reported in connection with the food safety recall as of yet.

J.R. Simplot Co. distributed the mislabeled product through foodservice and retail channels in Arkansas, Illinois, Kansas, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas and Mexico. The SKU number was listed as 10071179011392.

The first 12 digits of the lot numbers affected by the recall include the following:

• 987SEP301001

• 987OCT071001

• 987OCT081001

According to the company’s press release, “The recall was initiated after it was discovered that product containing milk and soybean was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of milk and soybean. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging processes.”

Consumers have been urged to return products affected by the recall to the place of purchase to obtain a full reimbursement.

For additional information concerning the recall, the firm advises consumers to call (608) 222-2860.
