Seattle, WA—A Seattle Seahawks season ticket holder, who was on the receiving end of a large chunk of snow thrown by Jets defensive end Shaun Ellis, filed a lawsuit as a result of the Dec. 21, 2008 incident. The victim, Robert Larsen filed the civil lawsuit in the Kings County Courthouse in Seattle on Dec. 16, 2010, as reported by the NJ.com.
A video shot during the incident showed the Jets player exiting Qwest Field as snowballs rained down on them from the stands. Ellis is seen deviating from his path to pick up a large chunk of snow against the wall behind the end zone, before walking over toward the stands and throwing it onto Larsen.
Larsen asserts that the packed snow and/or ice struck him in the head and body.
A NFL spokesperson said in 2008, Ellis was fined $10,000 for the snowball-wielding incident.
The lawsuit is seeking damages stemming from past and future medical expenses, past and future loss of earning, partial impairment of earnings and earning capacity, mental and physical pain and suffering, as well as other offenses related to the incident.
The suit also asserts that the Jets players were frustrated by the circumstances of the game, which eliminated them from the playoffs.
A tentative trial date for the case has been set for June 4, 2012.
