ASSISTING VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE … ONE DANCE STEP AT A TIME

Fayetteville, NC – November 18, 2008 — Camelwalk Productions, in conjunction with KISS 107.7, is proud to announce Land of 1,000 Dances Charity Ball, an annual Fayetteville, North Carolina, event directed at promoting and preserving African-American social dance and raising much needed funds for victims of domestic violence. Local DJs and Emcees will host this all-star studded event Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, November 28th, at 7:00 p.m. at The Doubletree Hotel in Fayetteville, 1965 Cedar Creek Road, NC.

Tickets are available for advanced purchase online for $25.00 at www.thelandof1000dances.com and at the door on the day of the event for $30.00. All proceeds will go to CARE, a Fayetteville non-profit assisting victims of domestic violence.

Social Dance

During the era of slavery, social dance, similar to spiritual hymns, was an integral medium of expression. Every move, step, and gesticulation narrated a story affecting the African-American community at the time. This has continued over the years, but the message behind the moves has lagged behind.

The evening’s festivities will include ground-breaking rhythm blues, funk, pop, hip-hop and rap songs and dance steps made popular over the years. Our goal is to bring about a greater understanding of the message behind the moves, and the significance social dance continues to play in American culture today.

Community Connection

As community members of all walks of life are able to find similarities and bond over something as common as popular songs and dance moves, respect for one and one another grows. Domestic violence splits families and divides communities. There is nothing more destructive to the development of child as violence in the home.

Land of 1,000 Dances Charity Ball seeks to unite and educate, and have some fun in the process!!! This is the party no one wanted to miss … and neither will you.
