Cave Creek biker crash victim transported by ground when AirEvac chopper crashed.
Phoenix, AZ (JusticeNewsFlash.com)–The Associated Press reports an AirEvac emergency medical helicopter crashed in the Cave Creek area late Sunday while responding to a motorcycle crash. According to Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department investigators, the three crew members aboard the AirEvac chopper were not injured in the crash. The motorcycle crash victim was transported to an area hospital by a ground ambulance.
North Phoenix crash investigators claim the medical helicopter was attempting to land at the motorcycle accident site to transport the seriously injured rider to the hospital when the pilot lost visibility and control of the chopper and hit the ground hard. The hard uncontrolled landing left the emergency medical transport chopper grounded and unable to fly.
This is one of several medical chopper crashes, in Arizona in the last year, and adds to the long list of recent medical helicopter crashes across the United States. In June of 2008, a medical helicopter crashed when the pilot lost visibility attempting to land in heavy dust near Ash Fork causing serious injury to three on board. Two days later, two helicopters crashed near Flagstaff Medical Center killing all seven people, including the pilots and medical personnel, on both choppers.
