Dallas, TX (AmericanInjuryNews.com)–The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) www.cpsc.gov has announced a voluntary recall of 300,000 hooded sweatshirts by Hilltop Sportswear Inc., on Thursday. The recall by the Paramount California sportswear company was prompted after the CPSC received a report of a 3 year-old boy in Fresno choking to death when he was strangled by the drawstring on the sweatshirt.
Apparently, the Kid Pullover Hood Sweatshirt and Kid Zipper Hood Sweatshirt have drawstrings through the hood. The 3 year-old was playing on the play ground set when the drawstring stuck in the equipment strangling him. The sweatshirt manufacturer urges all consumers who have bought on these sweatshirts to remove the drawstrings immediately because they can catch on objects and strangle a child causing serious injury and death.
The sweatshirts were sold by various small retailers in California and Texas form August 1999 through December 2008. The cost of the recalled product was typically $8 and Hill Sportswear will provide a full refund to consumers upon return of the hooded sweatshirts to the retailer or the manufacturer. Consumers should contact Hill Sportswear (877) 322-8760 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. PST Monday through Friday.
