3 St. Louis city workers were trapped in a sewer for six hours on Sunday.

St. Louis, MS (JusticeNewsFlash.com)–As reported by KPLR 11 news, St. Louis Metro Urban Search and Rescue Team rescued three city workers who were trapped in a sewer for six hours. The three city sanitation department employees were trying to clear a sewer backup in a twelve foot trench on Sunday when the walls collapsed.

One of the workers was pulled to safety before firefighters arrived. When the fire rescue crews, from several St. Louis departments, arrived they were able to free the second city worker in about an hour. The third man, from Gerald, Missouri, was freed after the Metro Urban Search and Rescue Team worked for about five hours. The emergency rescue team worked with vacuum trucks, shovels, and their hands to remove the dirt, debris and damaged trench from around the victim. The St. Louis city worker was freed about 9:00 p.m. and airlifted by a medical helicopter to a St. Louis trauma center for treatment of injuries.
