EPA ceases A & E Salvage asbestos worker clean up at Morristown plant.

Morristown, TN (JusticeNewsFlash.com)–The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) www.epa.gov issued an immediate Compliance Order to A & E Salvage, Inc., the entire corporate staff, directors and employees to cease violating federal asbestos regulations. The Order alleges the asbestos abatement company to stop all clean up and disposal of asbestos contamination materials at the former Liberty Fibers Rayon plant in Morristown, Tennessee they were hired to perform.

The asbestos abatement workers are ordered to cease all salvage and demolition activities at the bankrupt Tennessee Liberty Fibers plant because the company is in continued violation of the National Emission Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) for Asbestos under the federal Clean Air Act. The company and its asbestos workers also violated the terms of a consent agreement between the EPA and A & E Salvage entered into on August 8, 2008.

Airborne asbestos fibers are toxic especially when inhaled into the lungs. Asbestos workers, consumers, and area residents can develop asbestos related illnesses like asbestosis, a chronic, debilitating lung disease. Primary and secondary exposure to asbestos fibers can also cause various types of cancers, like mesothelioma lung cancer. EPA recognizes no safe level of exposure to airborne asbestos.
