Orrin “Checkmate” Hudson National Tour To Mississippi To Inspire Kids To Make The Right Moves
ATLANTA, GA – April 21, 2009 — Orrin “Checkmate” Hudson, national tour goes to Mississippi Wilkinson County School District to show students how to make better decisions in school and in life. His tool of choice: a chessboard. His goal: to foster self-esteem, responsibility, and analytical thinking skills to help kids become successful adults.
Timothy T. Scott the superintendent of Wilkinson School District in Mississippi believes Transforming Schools into Learning Communities is what it is all about. Mississippi is the 3rd state to commit Orrin dream of 50 states tour which will be schedule Wednesday April 22 through Friday April 24, 2009 Orrin will empower the parents, teachers and students to dream big by bring his dream board or should I say his chess board which he calls the board of education.
Hudson, a former Alabama State Trooper, author of “One Move at a Time http://besomeone.org/getthebook.html” and the founder of Be Someone http://www.besomeone.org, has made it his mission to visit all 50 states teaching students how to win the game of life using chess as a metaphor. “Due to the recent economic downturn, we have seen a rise in crime nationwide. I want to make sure that every child chooses to think it out, rather than shoot it out. It is more important than ever before to teach the youth of America that success is not measured by cars or clothes or dollars,” said Hudson. “Through chess, I teach children to push pawns instead of drugs and help them make the right moves that will improve their future.”

WHO: Orrin Checkmate Hudson
Where: Wilkinson County School District 488 Main St Woodville MS 39669 Timothy ,T. Scott, Superintendant.
When: April 22,23 & 24,2009
Why: To empower parents, teacher, children because one cannot success without the other.
In 2001, Hudson learned of an incident in which seven Wendy’s employees were shot, five of whom died – for just $2,400. This tragic incident inspired Hudson to quit his job and use his life’s savings to found Be Someone, a not-for-profit organization designed to raise self-esteem while teaching responsibility and analytical thinking skills to at-risk children.
Hudson travels the country mentoring children to value KASH – Knowledge, Attitude, Skills and Habits – over cash. Since Be Someone’s founding in 2001, the organization has touched the lives of over 20,000 students across the country. The results have been amazing: higher motivation, improved attendance, and better grades. Hudson’s message in every program is “Heads up, pants up, grades up, and never give up.”
Hudson hopes the success of Be Someone will inspire others to join him in supporting this important cause. “When good people fail to act, evil prevails,” said Hudson. “Investing in the youth of today is one of the best ways to ensure a better tomorrow.”
Be Someone’s goal is to bring this message to one million students within the next five years. To help Orrin show America’s kids how to make the right moves, please click on the links below or visit the websites:
What you can do to help:
I need Sponsors – people who will take me into their communities and/or homes so that I have safe environment and a sense of family while I am away from my own loved ones.
I need volunteers – people who will assist me in putting the word out in your community. People who will help me raise the money I need to steer this plan into long term status so it can thrive long after I put it into motion and that means fund raisers, volunteer groups, people who will sponsor the Be Some One Tour. Mentors, Teachers, Trainers and anyone willing to use their free time and experience to reach out to At-Risk Inner-City youths. I need help booking speaking engagements in your schools, churches, community centers, with businesses, corporations anything -you name it!
want to get on Oprah and if you will write her a letter on my behalf – I can reach more good people like yourselves who are willing to help me achieve my goal of reaching 1,000,000 kids. Implementing life strategies and principles that they can learn from playing the game of Chess. I want to get the word out to President Obama… so it will be the 3 Os – Orrin, Oprah and Obama changing the streets one child at a time – one move at a time. Together we can change the world and influence these very same children and show them that the real “KASH” to pursue is Knowledge, Attitude, Skills and Habits -that is currency that is KING – once you get your hands on it no one can take it away!
