Dallas, TX(JusticeNewsFlash.com)–Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) www.dshs.state.tx officials, in cooperation with University Interscholastic League (UIL) www.uil.utexas.edu, have announced all public high school athletic competitions are suspended because of the pandemic swine flu outbreak. The Texas Governor, Rick Perry declared a state of emergency disaster on Wednesday in response to 16 confirmed flu cases and one death in Houston.
The suspension of all high school sports competitions including golf, tennis, track, baseball, softball, and academic competitions are suspected to last until May 11, 2009. This comes as a blow to students whose academic futures depend of athletic performance and academic merit. The Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) www.tapps.net officials state their schedules remain unchanged claiming athletes and schools may choose not to participate.
One Dallas ISD elementary school will close beginning Friday until May 11 after a confirmed case of swine flu in a student. Dallas County public health officials and Dallas District School officials are working closely to monitor and prevent the spread of the new influenza type-A (H1N1) swine flu.
