2 Pennsylvania 7-Eleven stores pay EPA violations.

Pittsburgh, PA (JusticeNewsFlash.com)—Two 7-Eleven convenience stores, owned and operated by Handee Marts, Inc, were cited by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) www.epa.gov, for alleged violations of underground fuel storage containers according to EPA regulators.

Executives and company managers with Handee Marts, Inc., which conducts business as 7-Eleven, is working cooperatively with EPA officials in rectifying any violations Pennsylvania state regulators filed against the convenience store chain. According to information provided by Wikipedia http://www.wikipedia.org, 7-Eleven is considered to be a worldwide chain of convenience stores and currently holds the title of the largest chain store across every category. The two 7-Eleven locations, 1559 Route 228 in Cranberry Township, and 1101 Brookline Blvd in Pittsburgh, have agreed to pay $22,758 in fines to settle allegations of violations regarding their underground fuel storage tanks. EPA inspectors claim the 2 Pennsylvania 7-Eleven stores failed to detect, prevent, and control fuel leaks from underground storage tanks (UST) located at their establishments.

The Cranberry Township 7-Eleven location, failed to perform annual automatic leak detector tests on the store’s five UST’s, from May 2006 to November 2007. In addition, the Cranberry Township location failed to perform automatic line tightness tests on the underground piping involving the five UST’s, from August 2007 to November 2007. The Pittsburg location, also failed to annually test the automatic leak detector in their five UST’s from December 1, 2003 to August 22, 2007. The automatic line tightness tests were not performed on their UST’s from May 16, 2007 to July 18, 2006. The Pittsburgh retail store also failed to test the corrosion protection system every three years as required by state and federal laws. The 7-Eleven convenience store chain has neither admitted nor denied liability for the alleged actions, but as part of the settlement, certified its compliance with applicable UST regulations.
