Miami-Dade officer dies after rear-ending dump truck with patrol car.

Miami, FL(JusticeNewsFlash.com)–A two-vehicle automobile accident in Kendall, Florida, killed a Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) officer early Tuesday morning. Just News, powered by WPLG Local 10 News, reported the motor vehicle collision (MVC) took place at approximately 4:00 a.m., on the Florida Turnpike. Miami-Dade County police investigators say the officer, 23 year-old, Officer Giovanni Gonzalez, was on duty during his midnight shift, when his vehicle rear-ended a dump truck. The wreck happened on the Turnpike, a little before the exit for Southwest 152nd Street. Gonzalez then lost control of his patrol car. The driver of the dump truck, whose name has not been released, is cooperating with Kendall area police authorities. Gonzalez had just gone through the officer training program. The 23 year-old officer has been with the police force for about three years. He is survived by his fiancée and 1 year-old son.

Kendall area emergency medical services (EMS) crew pronounced Gonzalez dead at the accident scene. Miami-Dade County officials did not indicate whether the driver of the dump truck sustained any injuries. Miami-Dade County highway fatality detectives closed off the Turnpike’s southbound lanes at Southwest 152nd Street for nearly six hours as authorities investigated the two-vehicle MVC. Officials are questioning whether Gonzalez had been speeding at the time of the incident. Police are also investigating whether his cruiser’s lights were flashing and if the dump truck had suddenly pulled out in front of him, causing the car crash. Until conclusions have been reached, police investigators cannot determine who was at fault in the two-vehicle wreck.
