Macy’s and federal regulators recall 33,000 kiddie hoods for choking hazard.

New York, NY(JusticeNewsFlash.com)–Federal regulators and Macy’s Merchandising Group Inc. have issued a voluntary recall of approximately 33,000 Epic Threads and Greendog Hooded Sweatshirts. The recall was announced on June 17, 2009. Macy’s Merchandising Group, Inc., is a firm based out of New York, New York. The products are under federal recall because they pose a strangulation hazard. The drawstrings attached to the base of the sweatshirts hoods can get tangled around children’s necks. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) www.cpsc.gov was created through the Consumer Product Safety Act. The CPSC is responsible for protecting consumers from injuries related to consumer products.

The following items, sizes small and medium, are under federal recall:

– Epic Threads sweatshirts (Boys & Girls) with images/graphics on the front and/or back in the following colors: black, green, blue, yellow, maroon, gray, and white

– Various styles of Greendog sweaters with nonfunctional ties (Girls) in the following colors: gray and brown

The potentially hazardous sweatshirts were made in Taiwan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and India. Macy’s department stores across the United States received shipments of the recalled products from July 2008 to March 2009. The sweatshirts sold for $32.00 to $50.00.

No injuries related to the recalled items have been reported. The New York City firm reminds consumers they can return the product to any Macy’s for a refund. Consumers can also eliminate hazard by removing the drawstrings from the hoods. Consumers with questions can call Macy’s toll-free line at 888-257-5949 or by visiting their website at www.macys.com. Injuries can be reported to the CPSC at www.cpsc.gov/cgibin/incident.aspx. Consumers who have been injured as a result of the recalled garments may be entitled to compensation for their damages.
