6,000 pounds Chicago beef recalled!

Federal regulators recall over 6,000 pounds of Chicago beef for E. coli contamination.

Chicago, IL(JusticeNewsFlash.com)–Federal regulators and International Meat Co., Inc., issued a Class I recall of about 6,152 pounds of ground beef products. The voluntary Class I recall, meaning the product may cause serious health consequences including death, was issued on June 22, 2009. Safety inspectors with the FSIS discovered the products may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. The International Meat Co., Inc. is a firm based out of Chicago. The United States Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) www.fsis.usda.gov is an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) www.usda.gov. The FSIS is responsible for ensuring the safety of the nation’s egg, poultry, and meat products.

The following items are under federal recall:

– 5 lb. “International Meat Co., PURVEYOR OF FINE MEATS TO HOTELS AND RESTAURANTS, BEEF PATTIES” with an “EST. 22080” establishment number and the following identifying package codes: 061709, 061809, 061909

– 5 lb. and 10 lb. “International Meat Co., BEEF PATTIE MIX” with an “EST. 22080″ establishment number and the following identifying package codes: 061709, 061809, 061909

– 10 lb. “International Meat Co., GROUND BEEF” with an “EST. 22080″ establishment number and the following identifying package codes: 061709, 061809, 061909

– 10 lb. “Packed For, Purely Gourmet & Organic, Ground Beef” with an “EST. 22080″ establishment number and the following identifying package codes: 061709, 061809, 061909

The recalled items were made between June 17, 2009 and June 19, 2009. The ground beef products were sent to Chicago distributors and restaurants. No reports of illness related to the recalled products have been reported. An E. coli infection may cause bloody diarrhea and kidney failure, especially in newborns, elderly people, and people with poor immune systems. Consumers who have been injured due to the consumption of the recalled items may be entitled to compensation for their damages.
