Florida consumer alert-PowerPlus Generators recalled for fire hazard

West Palm Beach, FL(JusticeNewsFlash.com)–Federal regulators with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) www.cpsc.gov and Big Muddy Motor Sports have issued a recall on approximately 450 units of PowerPlus Generators. Big Muddy Motor Sports is a company located in Perryville, Missouri. The Perry County firm cooperated with the voluntary recall on June 25, 2009 after discovering the recalled products pose a fire hazard. PowerPlus Generators, a 220-volt receptacle, becomes extremely dangerous when power is not generated correctly, bringing about a power surge.

The following is a description of the recalled generator:

– Red with a black frame, bearing a “BM7200 Power+” model number shown on its side and a “02/2009” manufacture date shown on the fuel tank

The recalled PowerPlus Generators were made in China and retailed for approximately $700 in the United States. The products were available for purchase in May 2009 at Buchheit retailers in Missouri and Illinois. No injuries related to the recalled items have been reported. However, five incidents regarding power surges damaging appliances have been reported.

Safety regulators urge consumers to stop using the recalled PowerPlus Generators. A full refund or exchange is available at any Buchheit retail store. Additional questions regarding the recall can be directed to the Perryville firm by phone at 800-678-3607 or by visiting their website at www.buchheitonline.com or www.bigmuddymotorsports.com. Other injuries related to this product or another consumer product can be reported to the CPSC on their website at www.cpsc.gov/cgibin/incident.asp. The CPSC is responsible for the protection of individuals from unsafe consumer products.
