USDA safety regulators recall Buffalo SAV meat and poultry for illegal ingredient.

Buffalo, NY(JusticeNewsFlash.com)–Buffalo SAV, Inc., has participated in a Class II recall of about 208,768 lbs. of frozen meat and poultry food products. A Class II recall means there is a remote possibility of the item causing serious or adverse health consequences. Buffalo SAV is a firm based out of Buffalo, New York. Federal regulators with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) www.fsis.usda.gov announced the recall on June 30, 2009. The frozen meat and poultry items were recalled after safety regulators were notified by the New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets of an unapproved ingredient declared on the label. Products sold in the United States are not allowed to contain the unapproved ingredient, Amaranth Red #2. FSIS, an agency under the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) www.usda.gov, is primarily responsible for the safety of the U.S.’s egg, poultry, and meat products.

Various frozen meat and poultry items are under recall. A complete list of the recalled products, including details, size, and establishment numbers, can be found at the following website: http://www.fsis.usda.gov/News_&_Events/Recall_036_2009_Release/index.asp. The recalled frozen meat and poultry products had no case code or package code. The items, made from June 1, 2008 to June 5, 2009, were sent to retailers and distributors in the following states: Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois, and California. No injuries related to the recalled products have been reported. Questions regarding and other safety concerns can be directed to the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-888-MPHotline. Consumers who have been negatively affected by the recalled products may be entitled to compensation for their damages.
