Florida law enforcement officer hit on Turnpike while issuing driver ticket.

Orlando,FL(JusticeNewsFlash.com)–A motor vehicle collision (MVC), involving four cars early Friday, morning injured three people. The Orlando Sentinel reports the four-vehicle crash happened on the Florida Turnpike at mile marker 252. Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) state troopers say the Orlando accident took place when an Orange County sheriff’s deputy pulled over a car in a southbound lane. The deputy, 23 year-old Shane Dickens of Orlando, had his patrol car’s emergency lights turned on. The other car, a Buick driven by 22 year-old Kerry Velasquez of St. Cloud, was stopped in front of Dickens’ patrol car. Orlando area highway accident investigators state a third vehicle, a Ford Explorer SUV operated by 32 year-old, Christopher Schriefer of Kissimmee, was also traveling southbound when it rammed into the back of the patrol car. Dickens was not in his patrol car at the time of the wreck. He was talking to Velasquez, standing next to the Buick’s driver-side window. The SUV sprung back into oncoming traffic before getting hit by a big rig truck. The driver of the tractor-trailer truck was 55 year-old Arturo Lopez of Oak Creek, Wisconsin.

Orange County emergency medical services (EMS) personnel took Schriefer, the driver of the Ford SUV, to Florida Hospital in Kissimmee. Schriefer, who had been arrested for DUI in 2003, suffered minor injuries. Dickens and Velasquez were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center by Orlando area paramedics. The two suffered serious injuries. The condition of Lopez, the driver of the semi-truck, is unknown. All southbound lanes on the Turnpike were shut down until approximately 5:30 a.m.
