New York Attorney General takes legal action against Internet site Tagged.com

New York, NY–The New York Attorney General plans to sue the Internet social networking site, Tagged.com, for deceptive e-mail marketing practices and invasion of privacy, as reported by The New York Times. The New York Attorney General, Andrew Cuomo, stated Tagged.com is illegally luring new members by tricking visitors into providing their personal address books to the Internet site.

Mr. Cuomo further alleges the Internet company then uses the addresses to send out more invitations to join the social networking site, which were disguised as e-email messages from a friend, inviting them to view personal photos. The New York attorney general’s office estimates Tagged.com sent out more than 60 million deceptive e-mail messages worldwide to build it’s client base and increase business and traffic to its website.

Tagged.com reportedly suspended its deceptive e-mail marketing campaign in June. Tagged’s founder, Greg Tseng, claims the Internet company had received thousands of complaints from users, and did not want to continue to endanger it’s users. According to Wikipedia http://www.wikipedia.org, consumer anti-fraud advocates called Tagged.com a phishing, spamming, and e-mail scam site. TIME Magazine also has named the Internet site as “The worlds most annoying website”.
