Ohio based Kroger grocery stores recalls seasonings for salmonella risk.

Cinicinatti, OH–Kroger Co., a national retail grocer, participated in a recall of three food seasonings. The company issued the federal recall after being notified, by a supplier, the food seasoning products contain an ingredient possibly contaminated with Salmonella. Safety regulators with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) www.fda.gov announced the recall on June 30, 2009. Kroger, an American retail supermarket chain, is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The FDA, an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) http://www.hhs.gov, is responsible for maintaining the safety of consumer goods like, cosmetics, foods, dietary supplements, medical devices, blood products, vaccines, and veterinary products.

The following items are under federal recall:

– 2.82 oz jars of Kroger Popcorn Seasoning Movie Theater Butter Flavored, bearing a “JUN 08 10” sell-by date and a “011110 72445” UPC code

– 2.82 oz jars of Kroger Popcorn Seasoning White Cheddar Flavored, bearing a “JUN 09 10” sell-by date and a “011110 72444” UPC code.

– 2 oz jars of Kroger Fat Free Butter Flavored Sprinkles, bearing “JUN 08 10” and “JUN 09 10” sell-by dates and a “011110 66853” UPC code.

A complete list of stores that carried the recalled items is available at http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm170638.htm. No illnesses related to the recalled seasoning products have been reported. Although rare, Salmonella can cause severe, even deadly, infections in children, elderly people, and consumers with poor immune systems. Healthy individuals can expect symptoms to include abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, bloody diarrhea, and fever. The Hamilton County firm is providing consumers with a complete refund or replacement product. Questions regarding the recall can be directed to Kroger by phone at 800-632-6900 or by visiting their website at www.kroger.com/recalls.
