Indian River County passenger child dies in SUV accident rollover in Vero Beach.

Vero Beach, FL–An SUV rollover crash claimed the life of a 7 year-old girl and injured at least two others on Monday afternoon. The TC Palm reports the two-vehicle automobile accident took place on Southwest 27th Avenue in Indian River County, Florida at approximately 12:24 p.m. Vero Beach area police officials say an SUV was traveling west on Southwest 21st Street. Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) state troopers say the driver of the SUV, 52 year-old Sheila Odegard, caused the motor vehicle collision (MVC) after running a stop sign. The SUV then collided with a Dodge Ram pickup truck. The pickup truck, operated b y 46 year-old Lynette Walker of Fort Pierce, was traveling on Southwest 27th Avenue. The SUV rolled over and came to rest on its roof. Police detectives continue to investigate the truck wreck.

Alana Smith was a 7 year-old passenger in the SUV. Vero County area paramedics transported Smith to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce where doctors and nurses pronounced her dead. Smith’s father is an Indian River County Jail deputy. The driver of the SUV, Sheila Odegard, was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute for treatment of critical injuries. Indian River County area emergency medical services (EMS) crew transported the SUV’s third passenger, 4 year-old Olivia Douglas, to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach for treatment of critical injuries. Lynette Walker, the driver of the pickup truck, did not suffer any injuries. Walker’s pickup truck sustained $5,000 worth of damages to its right side.
