Joie de Vivre at EaT – An Oyster Bar – Popular Portland Chef Ethan Powell Throws a Wedding Party for his Run Away Bride
Portland, Oregon — August 14,2009 — Chef and owner of the New Orleans inspired EaT: An Oyster Bar, eloped last month and is throwing his bride the wedding party of a lifetime at his high-spirited North Portland restaurant Sunday, August 23rd. What does a Southern-raised, French Culinary Institute trained chef create for his own wedding party?
True to his restaurant’s name, guests will have plenty to eat at the EaT wedding party. A devoted patron of local and organic producers, the Powell team of colleagues, food and wine providers are pulling out the stops for the newlyweds.
The party, which celebrates Portland’s vibrant food and wine scene is being catered by friend and fellow chef Jason French, owner of Ned Ludd, recently profiled in the New York Times.
The menu is a testament to Southern hospitality and features: roasted suckling pigs; shrimp toast with Old Bay and volkhornbrot with Swedish butter; berried game hens; grilled cipollinis; Oregon coast grilled fish; long stewed peppers; left coast olive relish; summer squash fritters with fresh pepper jam; tartlets of eggplant, squash and heirloom tomatoes; fresh melon and tomato salads; and of course, EaT’s own fresh shucked local oysters and beer. Pastry chef, Cheryl Wakerhauser of Pix Patisserie is preparing macaroons, ganache covered cakelettes, along with an assortment of Armagnac, Cognac and Absinthe jello shots.
The food and wine are from local organic farms and vineyards including Chelsea Farms, Hama Hama, Oregon Oyster Farms, Elk Cove Vineyards and Dean Fisher’s Pinot Noir. They are working exclusively with small wine distributers, Casa Bruno and C & G Wines, to keep things as local as possible.
Ethan and Leah Moorhead, a sommelier, were on vacation in Zihuatanejo, Mexico when Ethan proposed and they were married two days later on the beautiful Playa del Ropa coast.
Friends from Portland’s food, wine and music scene will be at the party in force and both Ethan and Leah’s families will be converging on Portland from near and far. Music will be provided by jazz musician Curtis Delgado, and local DJ, ‘The Lieutenant’, will run the turntables later in the evening.
Laissez les bons temps rouler!
