North Carolina criminal attorneys alert- Former football star from the NCSU football team was killed in a crash involving a Camero and a Honda Accord.
Charlotte, NC—A violent wreck at the intersection of North Tryon Street and Salome Church Road killed a former North Carolina State University (NCSU) football player. The crash happened early Sunday morning at 1 a.m., as reported by the Charlotte Observer.
The former NCSU football star, Edrick Smith, 29, was traveling in the backseat of a Honda Accord, when a speeding Camero slammed into the side of the Accord. Police believe the driver of the Camero, Hugo Fernando Rosillo, 30, was driving in excess of 80-100 miles per hour when he struck the car. The impact of the crash spilt the Honda in two, which killed Smith. Hugo reportedly fled from the scene of the fatal crash, and was later tracked down by police helicopters and police dogs in a nearby wooded area. After Hugo was tracked down and arrested, he was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained in the wreck. The other occupants of the Accord were identified as the driver, Hakeen Ward Holloway, 30, and a second passenger, Barry Tyrone Pace, 31. Both occupants of the car were transported by area emergency medical services (EMS) crews to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries sustained in the wreck. The driver of the Camero is charged with second-degree murder, felony hit-and-run, and driving under the influence (DUI).
Smith leaves behind a wife and three kids. The Smith’s reportedly work for Nationwide insurance in Charlotte. The crash is under investigation by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
