Orlando, FL—A third Walt Disney World performer has died in just over a month. An accident at the Hollywood Studios on Monday, August 17, 2009, at 7 p.m. left a cast member fatally injured when he was doing a tumbling roll, as reported by the Orlando Sentinel.

The stunt performer, Anislav Varbanov, 30, was injured during rehearsal for the “Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular” when he tried to complete a tumbling roll. Disney workers reportedly called 911 at 7:34 p.m. to alert them of the incident involving the injured cast member. Varbanov was transported by area emergency medical services (EMS) crews to the Florida Hospital Celebration Health, where attending medical professionals pronounced him dead at 8:53 p.m.

The 30-minute show is known by Disney cast members as “Epic”, and is performed numerous times a day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The show opens with an actor impersonating Indiana Jones who swings on ropes to get a treasure, and navigates moving spikes. The popular rolling-ball scene is recreated, and cast members perform acrobatics, stage fights, and dodge pyrotechnics. The highly popular show amongst park goers has been performed since 1989. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office were alerted of the performers death. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation.
