Tennessee construction accident lawyer alert- One person killed, two others injured in a construction accident after the bridge collapsed into Holston River.

Kingsport, TN—One construction worker was killed, and two others were injured when column of steel reinforcing bar on the bridge they were conduction construction work on collapsed, and knocked the workers into the Holston River near the Boone Dam. The construction accident happened on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at 10 a.m., as reported by TriCities.com.

According to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, three workers plunged into the river below the bridge. Other workers present at the jobsite were able to retrieve two of the workers from the water, identified as Maria Lima, of Morristown, and Jessis Dominguez, of Rogersville. A third worker, Frangel Garcia, could not be saved. Lima and Dominguez were reportedly injured in the collapsed, and were transported by area emergency medical services (EMS) crews to a local hospital for treatment. Rescue divers recovered Garcia’s body from the river around 11 a.m., and pronounced him dead two hours after the accident occurred. All three workers are reportedly employees of Simpson Construction Company, based in Cleveland, Tennessee. The bridge is apparently being built to replace a steel girder span located at the Sullivan-Washington county line. Officials of the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA) http://www.osha.gov/ are expected to complete a full accident investigation.
