Utah Highway Patrol alerts Utah personal injury lawyers-A hay bale in the roadway causes crash.

Magna, UT—A large bail of hay, which fell off a truck while a crew was unloading them, is to blame for a three-car collision that injured five people. The multiple vehicle collision happened Tuesday night, September 15, 2009 around 8:30 p.m. along the westbound lanes of 2820West, as reported by the Desert News.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) a small crew was unloading half-ton sized bales of hay from a flatbed semi-truck parked alongside 2820West. The crew was reportedly unloading the hay with a forklift on the safe side of the big rig, when one of the bales fell off the other side of the tractor-trailer into the roadway. The hay bale reportedly sat in the road for over an hour, and the crew posted a bright orange flag to direct traffic around the hay bale in the road. A westbound Ford Explorer driven by a mother, with children inside the SUV swerved around the hay bale, and hit an oncoming Jeep head-on. The impact sent the Jeep off the side of the road and was rear-ended by a Chevrolet Malibu, which was traveling behind the Jeep. The driver of the Jeep was transported by area emergency medical services (EMS) crews to the Pioneer Valley Hospital for treatment of their injuries sustained in the wreck. The driver of the Explorer, and her 5-year-old daughter were also transported by EMS teams to the hospital for treatment of their serious injuries. A total of six people were injured in the crash, but only five were transported to local hospitals. It is unknown if the driver of the Malibu was injured in the wreck. The Salt Lake County Major Accident Team is reportedly at the scene of the crash, due to its severity, and they are expected to screen the investigation along with the Salt Lake Districts Attorney’s Office to help determine if any charges with be filed in connection with the wreck.
