Child strangled-Vertical Land window shades recalled

The CPSC recalled Vertical Land window blinds and shades after a 4 year-old girl was strangled to death.

Florida product liability lawyer alert-Feds recall horizontal blinds and vertical blinds after the window coverings caused another child strangulation death.

Panama City, FL–Vertical Land Inc. has participated in recall of approximately 15,400 horizontal blinds, 16,400 vertical blinds, and 800 cellular shades. Vertical Land is a manufacturer based in Panama City Beach, Florida. The voluntary recall was issued after a 4 year-old child died from strangulation. Specific details regarding the hazard of Vertical Land’s horizontal blinds, vertical blinds, and cellular shades can be found at http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml09/09329.html. The federal recall was announced on August 26, 2009 by safety regulators with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) www.cpsc.gov.

All custom Vertical Land cellular shades and vertical blinds without a cord tensioning device and horizontal blinds lacking an inner cord stop device are being recalled. A sticker label with the Bay County firm’s name, address, and telephone number is located on the head rail of certain window coverings. The price of the window shades ranged from $60 to $200. The window coverings retailed from January 1992 to December 2006 in various Vertical Land stores in Pensacola and Panama City. The window blinds and shades were made in the United States. The Florida Panhandle company urges consumers to stop using the recalled items. A free retrofit kid is available by contacting Vertical Land. The firm can be reached at 800-423-8653. Individuals who have been injured due to the use of the recalled window coverings may be entitled to compensation for their damages. Other incidents or injuries can be reported to the CPSC at www.cpsc.gov/cgibin/incident.aspx.
