St. Louis Worker died from construction accident

Occupational Health and Safety Administration alerts Missouri construction accident lawyers- A fall at the Sugar Camp Mine left a construction worker dead.

St. Louis, MO—A construction worker was killed at the Sugar Camp Mine after he fell 39 feet. The fatal construction accident happened on Wednesday night, September 23, 2009 at 11351 Thompsonville Road in Franklin County, as reported by WSTL-TV.

According to the Franklin County Coroner, Robert Comer III, 38, of Elizabethtown was pouring concrete, among other workers, when he moved his safety harness and stepped through an opening in the raised platform, which was hovering over a shaft, and fell 39-feet to the bottom. Comer was then airlifted by area emergency medical services (EMS) crews to Franklin Hospital in Benton for treatment of his life threatening injuries injuries. Attending medical professionals pronounced Comer dead at 10:48 p.m. at the Franklin Hospital. Cowin Company reportedly employed Comer when the accident occurred. Cowin Company, an independent contractor, was sinking the shaft for the mine. Reportedly, the construction site where the fatal accident occurred is currently shut down while investigators are completing their accident reports. Officials with the Federal Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) http:///www.osha.gov/ are conducting a full investigation into the fatal construction accident. Comer is survived by his wife, 3-year-old twins, and a 14-year-old son.
