Jacksonville, FL—Two people were killed and four others were injured after their car slammed into the back of a school bus. The school bus crash happened on Tuesday afternoon, September 29, 2009 around 3:00 p.m., on hall Boree Road and Blanding Boulevard in Middleburg, as reported by Jacksonville.com.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported a Pontiac sedan wasn’t able to stop before it plowed into the back of a turning school bus. The impact of the crash caused the sedan to burst into flames. The driver of the Pontiac, Elisabeth Brantley, 19, of Interlachen, and the front-seat passenger, Paul Bruchesky, 48, of Melrose were pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck by responding emergency medical services (EMS) crews. A third passenger in the Pontiac, Samantha Brantley, of Interlachen was transported by EMS teams to Shands Jacksonville for treatment of her non-life threatening injuries. The school bus was reportedly transporting 20 students from Middleburg Elementry School when the crash occurred. Four students on the bus were injured as a result of the wreck. It is unknown if the injured students were transported to the hospital for treatment. Police officials are reportedly investigating the fatal school bus crash.
