Tullahoma, TN—Two University of the South students were killed, and three others were injured when their vehicle collided with a semi-truck. The fatal wreck happened on Thursday morning, October 1, 2009, around 6: 10 a.m., at the intersection of Highway 41A and Airport Road, as reported by WRCBTV.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol reported, a 2007 Hyundai driven by Kathleen T. Beach, 18, of Clarksville, pulled out into the path of a 1995 Mack tractor-trailer, leaving Beach and another passenger dead. Beach and the front seat passenger, Kathryn S. Christianson, 19, of Chattanooga were pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck by responding emergency medical services (EMS) professionals. The two backseat passengers, Anna C. Summs, 18, of Cookeville, and Arden G. Jones, 18, of Greenwood, were injured in the crash. The two injured victims were transported by EMS teams to Emerald-Hodgson Hospital and flown to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga for treatment of their injuries. The driver of the Mack big-rig was also transported by EMS crews to Emerald-Hodgson for treatment, and was later released. All four students involved in the wreck were reportedly members of the rowing team, and were on their way to practice at Lake Dimmick when the fatal crash occurred. Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office are conducting a full investigation into the tragic crash.
