Legal news for Florida employment lawyers. Dust pilled up in dust collectors sparked an explosion, which injured two people.

Occupational Health and Safety Administration alerts Florida employment lawyer alerts-A dust explosion at a pipe coating plant injured four people.

Panama, FL—Dust is to blame for an explosion at E.B. Pipe Coating, which injured four people. The blast happened on Monday, October 5, 2009, at the E.B. Pipe Coating building at the Port Panama City, as reported by NewsHerald.com

According to Panama City Police, the explosion was caused by dust that collected in the two dust collectors. Officials stated they are unsure what initially sparked the explosion. Reportedly, the explosion started in the area where the pipes receive the coating. Four people were injured in the blast. One seriously injured victim was airlifted by area emergency medical services (EMS) crews to a burn center in Georgia for treatment of their injuries.

Three other victims were treated by medical professionals and released by Monday afternoon. The building was reportedly shut down, and 20 to 30 employees were sent home for the day. The building is forecasted to be closed for the next several days. The facility apparently only sustained limited damage, which included smoke damage. It didn’t appear the building sustained any structural damage in the explosion. Officials with the federal Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) http://www.osha.gov/ and fire officials are conducting a full investigation into the workplace explosion.
