Legal news for Michigan construction accident attorneys. A weld broke and caused two workers to fall.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) alerts Michigan construction accident lawyer-A fall while working on a grain elevator injured two workers.

Grand Rapids, MI—Ionia County investigators believe a break in a weld is responsible for grain elevator accident, which injured two workers. The construction accident happened on Thursday, October 8, 2009 around 9:30 a.m., at the Caledonia Farmers Elevator Company’s Lake Odessa Branch, as reported by MLive.com.

According to accident reports, Jason Radke, 37, of Plainwell, was standing on a platform, which is fastened to a metal “leg” structure that disperses grain into bins. While Radke was securing a spout to the leg, the V-shaped weld securing the spout to the crane broke and caused Radke to fall 130 feet. The Agri Equipment Services worker fell 130 feet with the leg, and landed in a pile of debris left behind from a demolition of nearby concrete silos. Another worker identified as Shawn Babbitt, 27, of Allegan, also fell 30 feet due to the collapse. Both of the injured workers were transported by area emergency medical services (EMS) crews to Spectrum Health Butterworth in Grand Rapids for treatment of their injuries. Radke is reportedly listed in critical condition, while Babbitt is listed in fair condition. Officials with the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) http://www.osha.gov/ are conducting an investigation into the grain elevator accident.
