U.S. Soccer forward Charlie Davies suffers catastrophic injuries in fatal G.W. car crash.

U.S. Soccer team player suffers catastrophic injuries in George Washington Memorial Parkway automobile accident.

Washington, D.C.–The U.S. Soccer team’s 2010 World Cup hope was hit with a blow to the chest in the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 13, 2009, when their star forward was traumatically injured in a Virginia car crash. As reported by the Washington Post, American forward Charlie Davies was a passenger in an automobile that crashed around 3:15 a.m. Tuesday on the George Washington Memorial Parkway in Virginia.

An unidentified female driver hit a guardrail splitting the auto in half after she apparently lost control of the motor vehicle on the highway. Another passenger, 22 year-old Maryland resident Ashley J. Roberta was killed in the car crash. The 23 year-old star 2010 World Cup hopeful for the U.S. Soccer team was airlifted by medical helicopter to Washington Hospital Center where teams of doctors, surgeons, and nurses treated and operated on him to repair numerous injuries he sustained in the fatal automobile accident. Davies had a lacerated bladder, multiple right leg fractures of his femur and tibia, plus left elbow and facial fractures. Team officials state he is scheduled to undergo more surgery for his severe injuries and recovery and rehabilitation is a 6 to 12 month process at a minimum which would keep the player out of the June 11, 2010 start of the World Cup.
