Atlumin Establishes Solar Materials Manufacturing in Sunnyvale California
/ EIN Presswire / 19 November 2009, New York – Atlumin Energy Inc opens state-of the art manufacturing in Sunnyvale, California to support renewable energy manufacturers, initially solar module manufacturers. Atlumin will ship their first product from this new facility in January 2010. These first articles are customer specific rotary sputtering targets for solar module manufacture. Atlumin’s Sunnyvale, California facility will ultimately manufacture a full range of products for solar module manufacturers. Tellurium, selenium, indium, gallium, copper, and cadmium are the basis of most Atlumin product offerings.
David Preische, Vice President of Sales for Atlumin said, “We are putting manufacturing roots in California to be local to many of our key thin-film customers manufacturing sites and development locations. Close proximity is a component of our strategy to be super-responsive. Our new facility is within 10 – 20 minutes of many local customers. This proximity dramatically compresses response time and development cycles, speed counts in solar. Atlumin is focused exclusively in renewable energy, the same focus as our customers. We understand!”
At this new facility, Atlumin will provide metals, chemicals, and fabricated products, including specialized sputtering targets, and reclaim services. Some materials used in thin-film photovoltaic, such as indium and gallium, are valuable enough to support reclaim.
This new manufacturing facility will be equipped with the Atlumin Material Loop for the materials that it manufactures. This is a closed loop system to link our customer facilities to this Atlumin facility in order to compress cycle time, reduce loss, minimize waste, and be environment friendly. Customers, our local community, and the environment are beneficiaries.
Tim Starkey, Vice President of Operations, added, “We are equipping this 55,000 sqft facility with an emphasis on efficiency. We drive efficiency along several dimensions, such as, administrative, yield management, cycle time, and minimal process steps. The goal is to deliver consistently high-quality products via a just-in-time philosophy to help our customers continue to reduce their cost structure and accelerate their own ramp-up. Our speed and quality drive their system costs down, enable customer cost control, same lessons that we learned in the hard-disc drive industry.”
“We are pleased to be able to support the solar photovoltaic market acceleration and at the same time be a source of new jobs and employment in the local community. We are so pleased to have the opportunity to do both.”
In addition to manufacturing, Atlumin’s new Sunnyvale facility will house product development, process engineering, application engineering, and sales administration. This central location structure is designed to enable Atlumin to be exceptionally efficient and responsive to customer needs.
