Warren, OH—At least seven ambulances transported 18 injured students to area hospitals after a car rear-ended the school bus that was packed with high school students. A Pontiac Vibe rear-ended the No. 2 school bus in the eastbound lanes of Atlantic Street N.E. near the Buena Vista Avenue N.E. around 8:45 a.m., as reported by the Tribune Chronicle.
According to one of the students traveling on the bus, the school bus was stopped at the railroad tracks, to check for incoming trains, when the Pontiac slammed into the back of it. Nine injured students were transported by area emergency medical services (EMS) teams to Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital and St. Joseph Health Center for treatment. Several students were seen on backboards and fitted with neck braces before being loaded into the ambulances. Nine additional students were transported via another bus to the hospitals as a precautionary measure.
The driver of the Pontiac was also injured and taken to the hospital for treatment of her non-life threatening injuries. She reportedly told police that she did not see the stopped bus. The school bus driver was uninjured in the crash. Another bus transported 10 uninjured students the rest of the way to school. Police officials are conducting a full investigation into the school bus wreck.
