Legal news for Rhode Island wrongful death attorneys. James Woods settled lawsuit over his brother’s death.

James Woods’ family reached a settlement of a wrongful death lawsuit filed against Kent Hospital.

Warwick, R.I.—Hollywood actor, James Woods, settled a wrongful death lawsuit filed against Kent Hospital over the death of his brother, Michael J. Woods, on Tuesday, December 1, 2009. Michael Wood’s family decided to settle the lawsuit after a hospital executive apologized to them personally and agreed to open an institute at the hospital, as reported by NBC San Diego.

Michael Woods, 49, went to the Kent Hospital back in 2006 complaining of a sore throat and vomiting, when he had a heart attack and died. His family claimed the Rhode Island hospital didn’t do enough to save his life. The settlement came after Kent Hospital’s Chief Executive, Sandra Coletta, apologized to the family personally for the first time since the tragic death on Monday. Under the agreement of the settlement, the Wood’s family is receiving an undisclosed amount of money to take care of Michael’s three children. In addition, Kent Hospital will be opening the Michael J. Wood’s Institute at the hospital, which will aim to lessen human errors and human factor research. The hospital will invest $1.25 million over the next five years into the new institute. A representative of the Wood’s family will be slated to be a part of the leadership of the institute, in addition to experts in and outside of the hospital.
