Pine Forest Country Club Fall Festival Funds Trips for Make-A-Wish(R) Children
HOUSTON, TX December 7, 2009 — The Pine Forest Country Club raised $12,000 at its Fall Festival on Oct. 24 to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation(R) of Texas Gulf Coast & Louisiana grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
The club set the goal of raising enough money to grant one local child’s wish but due to the generosity of its members, enough money was raised to grant two local children wishes. The average cost of a wish for the local chapter is $6,000. Pine Forest Country Club’s success will fund 7-year-old Mark’s wish to visit The Sponge Bob Hotel. Mark was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, brain tumor cancer. The Club will also fund 9-year old Benjamin’s wish to visit Walt Disney World(R) Resort. Benjamin was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, bone cancer. These donations will cover the cost of the trip and related expenses for both children and their families. Unused funds will help fund other children’s wishes.
Pine Forest Country Club members enjoyed a fun-filled day of hay rides, train rides, carnival rides, games, crafts, rock climbing, music and delicious food. Members also took shots at drenching their favorite board or staff member in the dunking booth. The night ended with an outdoor movie and lots of popcorn.
“Caring people in the community make it possible for us to give kids like Mark and Benjamin the joy of a wish experience,” said Teri Andrepont, president and CEO of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Texas Gulf Coast & Louisiana. “Thanks to Pine Forest Country Club, Mark, Benjamin and their families will enjoy some valuable time together free from the worries of dealing with their illness.”
