14 people injured on Devil’s Head Resort ski lift

Wisconsin personal injury attorneys alerts- Fourteen skiers suffered injuries after a ski lift malfunction.

Madison, WI—A ski lift malfunction injured at least 14 people, when the ski lift at Devil’s Head Resort suddenly reversed for unknown reasons. The horrifying incident occurred on Thursday, December 17, 2009, around 7:00 p.m. in Merrimac, as reported by the Wisconsin State Journal.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Department reported, a ski lift at the Devil’s Head Resort was taking skiers up a slope when it stopped and suddenly shot back in reverse. A skier on the lift reported that the lift reversed quickly, and they could see sparks flying and could smell smoke. Witnesses also stated, “people were jumping off from 40 feet up.” A total of 12 people were transported by emergency medical services (EMS) teams to area hospitals for treatment by doctors and nurses. All the injuries were described as “minor” by responding EMS professionals. Additional people also went to the hospital on their own. Seven people are reportedly in fair condition at Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital and Clinics. Seven others are reportedly being treated at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo for their injuries. It is currently unknown what caused the ski lift to suddenly malfunction. A full investigation is reportedly underway.
