Three dead, two injured in fatal head on collision on Interstate 75.

Athens, TN—Three people, including a baby, were tragically killed in a head-on collision between two cars on Sunday, January 3, 2010, according to information provided by Cincinnati.com. The fatal wreck allegedly occurred near Athens, Tennessee on Interstate 75. The owner of InCahoots Restaurant reportedly sustained fatal injuries in the motor vehicle collision (MVC). The restaurant remained closed on Sunday after the horrific incident.

It was reported by the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) that 25-year-old Brentt McKinney of Maryville was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-75 at approximately 4 a.m. when he struck an oncoming vehicle. McKinney’s car crashed head-on with a vehicle being driven by 19-year-old Howard Jr. Zuefle, Zuefle’s son. There were four people, including the infant, traveling in the car when it was hit.

Emergency medical services (EMS) crews responded to the scene to transport the injured to area hospitals to be treated by doctors and nurses. Both Zuefle and the baby, whose name was not provided, were killed in the horrible crash. Seated in the back seat, Zuefle allegedly had the baby on his lap without the use of a seat belt at the time of the incident. The wrong-way driver was also pronounced deceased at the scene. Zuefle Jr. was allegedly airlifted to Erlanger Health Center in Chattanooga after sustaining injuries in the accident. Zuefle’s wife, 47-year-old Julia Zuefle was also flown from the scene to University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville though she was reportedly never admitted to the hospital.
