Burn hazard prompts Acer to recall notebook computers

Product liability lawyers alert- The CPSC and Acer recalled notebook computers due to a burn hazard.

San Jose, CA—The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov, in cooperation with Acer American Corporation have announced a voluntary recall of certain Acer Aspire-series notebook computers. The computers were recalled after the company received reports of short circuiting and overheating problems, as reported by the CPSC.

Nearly 22,000 China- manufactured computers were recalled due to a potential burn hazard, which may occur when the internal microphone wire under the palm rest can short circuit and overheat. Acer has received three reports of short circuits, which has melted the external casing. No injuries were reported, nor were any incidents in the U.S. reported. The model numbers of the recalled products are Acer AS3410, AS3410T, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ, and AS3810TZG. The screens size is 13.3, when measured diagonally. Not all units were affected by this recall; contact Acer to determine if your computer is included. The recalled product was sold at ABS Computer Technologies, D&H Distributing, Fry’s Electronics, Ingram Micro, Radio Shack, SED/American Express, Synnex Corporation, SYX Distribution, Tech Data Corporation, Amazon.com, and other retailers nationwide. The product was sold from June 2009 through October 2009 for between $650 and $1,150. Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately, and contact Acer to determine to see if your computer is involved in the recall to receive a free repair.
