Ohio State Highway Patrol investigates fatal crash involving bus and tractor-trailer.

Springfield, OH—Four people were killed in a tragic crash involving a tractor-trailer and a small bus carrying disabled passengers in southwest Ohio on Interstate 70 Thursday, January 7, 2010, according to information provided by USA Today. The motor vehicle collision (MVC) reportedly occurred around 12:45 p.m.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) reportedly stated that a westbound tractor-trailer was traveling on snow-covered I-70 when it jackknifed, subsequently sent it careening over the center-median and into oncoming traffic. The swerving tractor-trailer struck an eastbound bus, clipping another vehicle in the incident as well. The 17-passenger bus reportedly carried disabled individuals from a vocational services center known as the Creative Learning Workshop.

The Harmony Township Fire Department as well as emergency medical services (EMS) personnel responded to the scene of the crash to transport the injured to hospitals for treatment by doctors and nurses and also to clear the scene after preliminary investigations were conducted. It was reported that the bus driver and three of its occupants were unfortunately killed in the motor vehicle accident. Seven others were injured in the wreck, one of which sustained critical injuries. Four of the injured individuals were allegedly transported to Springfield Regional Medical center with undisclosed injuries.

There were other crashes that day allegedly reported due to weather conditions. Highway Patrol officers continue to investigate into what caused the fatal collision.
