Pickens Slashes Order for GE Wind Turbines; Panhandle Wind Farm on Hold
January 13, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ – Energy magnate T. Boone Pickens has slashed by half his order for wind turbines from General Electric, indefinitely delaying his plans for a Panhandle wind farm in Texas.
Pickens will still receive 300 wind turbines for wind farms in Canada and Minnesota, but the turbines planned for a project in Texas will not be delivered. The original deal, made in 2008 between Mesa Power and GE, was for 687 wind turbines at a cost of $2 billion.
Although Pickens says he will still build a wind farm in the Texas Panhandle, his focus has shifted away from wind to natural gas, driven in part by the drop in natural gas prices.
